Financial Counselor Intern (Virtual)

About the Company

Conscious Impact Financial Planning is a boutique RIA firm that is centrally focused on socially responsible investing. We believe that financial planning should be accessible to all individuals and have created distinct programs that serve clients in all seasons of their life.

About the Role

This role is designed to educate and train candidates to become an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC ®). Because the candidate will be under the supervision of an AFC ®, all hours earned will count as 1.5 hours experience toward 1000 needed to obtain the AFC ® designation.

To prepare the candidate for independent financial counseling work after the internship, activities may include the following:

  • Receiving training on firm systems and software and becoming acquainted with common workflows.
  • Shadowing supervisor in daily activities.
  • Researching financial topics and creating educational materials.
  • Completing financial counseling sessions (supervised by an AFC ®).

Candidates that complete their internship with us will be eligible for an employee position in our firm as a financial counselor. Once hired as a financial counselor, there are opportunities for advancement into other areas in the firm.

Time commitment

Candidates should be able to dedicate at least 20 hours per week to the internship. During months 1-3 the candidate will be studying for and passing the AFC ® exam and months 4-12 will be dedicated to completing experience hours.

What will you learn/role benefits?

By the end of the internship candidates will understand the various aspects of financial counseling and be able to conduct themselves independently as an AFC ®, whether as an employed counselor or an independent financial coach.
